@D8ve, have you heard of the lexiteers? if you haven't, this guy explains their view better than I can. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/28/opinion/why-brexit-is-best-for-britain-the-left-wing-case.html?_r=0

most of this list is achievable. Have a little faith in our negotiators.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't think it's likely that we will water down workers and environmental protection. Mrs May has had a pretty good run so far with Mr Corbyn's help but now that A50 is about to be triggered, normal opposition will come back. That means that Mrs May can't bully anyone anymore.

    Electric bike under£1000

The main difference between the two types of motor is the way the bike wiggles its derriere. I sometimes do a 'wiggling' test for the feel of the bike, holding to the left brake and the saddle. The less the bike wiggles its derriere, the more it feels bikey.

that's totally unfounded - parliament will have to pass legislation for these things. How do you know if and when they are going to be reality?

Why does every eBike seem to advertise a 20-30 mile range?

some factors affecting the average range beside the weather that I can think of: 1. tyre width and diameter 2. tyre inflation pressure 3. quality of the suspension and its setting 4. traffic 5. Clothing 6. type of motor, some are truly awful at start/stops, some too good at it and subsequently...

Why does every eBike seem to advertise a 20-30 mile range?

The test in d8veh's post is hill climbing. For a CD motor climbing a hill, you need to select a gear that suits the motor + gradient combo for the best climbing speed. The guy who rides a hub bike is not so constraint, he is freer to choose.

It's not the BMS that causes the battery to sag, it's the internal impedance of the cells. the spec sheet for the LG M26 cell is here if anyone is interested: https://www.imrbatteries.com/content/lg_M26.pdf They quoted 60milli-Ohms or better. On a string of 13 cells, that adds up to 13 x 60...

Why does every eBike seem to advertise a 20-30 mile range?

How about this as an explanation: the rider on the bike with a hub motor may have chosen a gear that suits his natural cadence and sticks to it, he is therefore more productive pedaling his bike than his mates who have to change gears all the time.

Why does every eBike seem to advertise a 20-30 mile range?

I usually ask the customers where they live, then give then my estimate the range that they can expect. The mental arithmetics works like this: small motor (Bafang SWX): 10WH per mile medium size motor (Bafang SWX02): 11WH per mile big motor and CD motor: 12WH per mile weight factor: 0.5WH per...

Why does every eBike seem to advertise a 20-30 mile range?

they can of course be all correct and all incorrect. These ranges are estimates and the companies should make that very clear and also give the WH or at least AH which are better approximation of the capability of their batteries.
