Actually, Electric bike sales only offer a labour warranty if the bike is bought from them and state that if the manufacturer discovers a device has been used you are on your own.

That you do but it has nothing to do with stuffing up a new gen4 motor by buggering about with it .

i have had my bosch bike since 2014 and have a dongle to remove the speed limit and never had a problem.

looking around there are a few reports of risk of 503 error, would this be a risk with 4 gen on A) buying new B) updating the firmware ( is the firmware only updated by taking to the bike shop?) if there is 503 error will the bike stop working, read that it can happen up ro 3 times before...

badass dongles still work on gen 4 the only problem you will get is if you get a dongle that is wired in to the motor a future update could stop it working.
