36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

I have found, by experiment, that if the BUS line on the battery is connected to +5V via a high value resistor, 27K in this case, the battery wakes up and sends 4 blocks of data, which might be bytes. But that is all it sends, so it looks likley that the battery is waiting for a response from...

36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

If you can work out what the data format is and read it with a suitable small micro, then you ought to be able to sense a high temperature condition and use a transistor to trigger one of the brake sensors. Ideally you would want to turn off the display\controller, but that might be a...

36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

I have been able to get hold of one of the older Bosch chargers and I can take it to bits if I want. The first obvious bit is that the central blade is one sided on the charger, see the picture below; So when the battery is inserted the internals of the charger are connected to the BUS line...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Another way of detecting an overheating battery ! Slap the raw salmon on top of the battery and if it starts cooking you need to decide whether its time to eat or to run.

    Batteries Charging Routine

If there was a charging regime that could considerably extend the life of a battery it would be no surprise if manufactures such as Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Pansonic, Bafang etc. would not want to encourage it, they make money selling batteries after all. In addition whilst the manufacturers...

"Conversion kits to blame in 40% of ebike fires, says London Fire Brigade"

True but then the Boris saga is a classic case on them that getting elected decieving the people who elect them.

"Conversion kits to blame in 40% of ebike fires, says London Fire Brigade"

Whilst there may be a particular number of eBike fires from conversion kit eBike kits, does that imply that all conversion kit eBike kits are more likely to cause fires ?

"Conversion kits to blame in 40% of ebike fires, says London Fire Brigade"

Indeed, and so meaningless for those who can think a bit, is that you do wonder if there is a deliberate agenda to decieve the masses .......

"Conversion kits to blame in 40% of ebike fires, says London Fire Brigade"

Well unless there is some other type of eBike, if 40% of eBike fires are caused by conversion kits, then 60% must be caused by manufactured eBikes. However the figures are meaningless unless you know what the percentage ratio of eBikes in use is, conversion kit bikes versus manufactured eBikes...

Probably; and if your short of votes, you dont want to go annoying drivers.

"Conversion kits to blame in 40% of ebike fires, says London Fire Brigade"

Indeed, if 60% of eBike fires are caused by ready built, regulated, blah, blah, eBikes then maybe they should be banned as clearly the regulations dont work.

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

If you measure the charger output voltages, as in direct across the battery, and your multimeter shows one charger as 42V and the other as 41V does it really matter if the multimeter has an accuracy of 'only' 1%, the difference in the charger voltages is going to be very close to 1V ? Remember...

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

If the capacity loss were 7% or more, I can see why customers would not be happy, 7% less range etc. I would suggest you check your batteries for yourself, using a testing method that reflects how users would charge and use their batteries. I have just been testing one of those electronic...

    AI cameras recognise texting drivers

If you cannot take a hand off the handlebar to make turn\stop signals, its a good idea to not ride a bike on the road.

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

Reducing the charge termination voltage does reduce the degradation or reduction in capacity of the lithium cells, heaps of evidence for that. So if you charge to 41V, which whilst initially results in the battery having a slightly reduced capacity, its possible that after 4 years and 400...

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

A Fluke 87, like what I have got, has a quoted accuracy of; ±(0.05% + 1) And last time I checked it at one of those Barclays Eagle Labs it was within that. But that was pre pandemic, so maybe time for another vist to their lab again.

    AI cameras recognise texting drivers

I dont believe there is specific rules on this, although if you did it your really just advertising that you want the police to pull you over for riding in a dangerous fashion. Of course if your riding an eBike that is not road legal, say for instance the maximum 15.5mph limit has been...

Probably wont stop it all together, I would agree. However, I would be surprised if the introduction of a minimum one year driving ban did not result in a significant reduction of the offences.

And that is the real World way of doing the capacity comparision; Stop charging at 41V, measure the capacity. Wait a bit Stop charging at 42V, measure the capacity. Compare the capacities.
