    Hello from Aberdeen!

Hi Bindo What part of Aberdeen do you commute to? I commute from Bridge of Don to the city centre - mostly downhill on the way in, but the hard work's coming home :) As you know, the weather's been lousy, but hopefully it will dry up by the time you get your bike. Cheers

    Smart Ebike

On the Smart bike - regeneration cuts in while braking. The only time I ever consciously activate regeneration is on a long downhill through a local park - gravity can easily pull you up to 30 mph plus, or should that be pull you down? Using the regeneration keeps the speed down to a sensible...

    Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E

The electronics are by Suntour, this is a link for the user manual, but it appears to be for the front wheel motor. I would have thought that the programming was the same. http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/service/download-area/consumer-downloads/e-bike/owners-manuals/2014/

What's the Smart e-bike really like...

Having used my Smart Ebike for a couple of weeks, I would like to pass on my experience of the bike. It has certainly transformed my commute to work, and I have been impressed by the performance - especially on my home commute which is predominately uphill. One particular section of road where...

For Forks sake, I need help!

Correct, you should also set the air pressure to suit your weight - although I haven't done that myself yet. It was a nice surprise to find the pump in the box.

For Forks sake, I need help!

Hi Smart As you know, I've got a Black Edition with the suspension forks - and I keep them locked out when cycling on tarmac. Unlocked they are pretty good for cycling on the cobbles through Old Aberdeen.

Happy to keep the power on the left, as this balances out the functions, L power and rear brake, R gearshift and front brake. Can you clarify the inner tube issue? The Black edition wasn't my one - but it appears to be the last one available, at least in Belgium.

Hi Smart I sent you a conversation with the contact details for two dealers that have stock, including one Black edition. I am using a different dealer, I sent an email to all dealers in Belgium and went for the first positive reply, the bike is being prepped before dispatch - including...

Hi Smart Looks as if I've managed to get a Smart Black Edition from a dealer in Belgium. 1899 euros, but it comes complete with luggage rack and front suspension. There are still some dark grey bikes available for 1499 euros. https://www.smart.com/be/nl/index/smart-electric-bike.html

Hi Smart eBiker Looking into this myself, how much work was required in setting up the bike after delivery, especially the handlebars and brakes? Access to the headset looks as if it requires some dismantling. Were the brakes set up properly? Looking at the owners manual - it seems as if front...

    Advice Required

Hi Yamdude The Suntour HESC system on the Crossfire-E seems a bit of a rarity, but according to the Suntour website the specifications are: Nominal power: 250 W Maximum power: 400 W Maximum torque: 50 Nm Seems healthy enough.

Hi Trex Appreciate your comments, I'll pop into Halfords at the weekend - looking at their website, they seem to have the bike in stock. Cheers

I did look into a conversion, but my existing bike, Specialized Tricross, is 9 years old, and I don't think the canti brakes would cope with the extra weight of a motor and battery - and converting to discs would be difficult.

Looking to take the pedelec plunge later this year, or early next year. A change in my commute will mean a nasty climb on the way home, and my 59 vintage legs will struggle - especially when you add the effects of the Aberdeen wind, always seems to be a headwind. The commute would be a 10 mile...
