For Sale Tongsheng TSDZ2 48v/52v Motor, Em3ev 52v Battery, Upgrades, and little use.

If you are really maxing it out probably wise. Although it’s capable at lower amps too. Depends on how you’re using it. I set this one up to be capable of high watts, but it was too much. Far too fast.

That was just me being greedy as the LBS was arranging it all :)

    Parallel batteries (again!)

Do they work in parallel? Yes, at times when the motor demands current. The Orbea manual says it only ever gets used as a charger (and is therefore never parallel), but the MAHLE system pdf (for the same device) may suggest something else; in one example up to 2amps are supplied from the range...

    Parallel batteries (again!)

That could be similar to how the Bosch system works, swapping from one battery to the other repeatedly, rather than a true parallel connection (which by all accounts sounds dangerous for consumer level tech). ebikemotion may have been aiming for this, but they didn't end up doing it. Their...

    Parallel batteries (again!)

I think I understand. Are you suggesting that the bike's charging system relies on the official accessories (mains charger and range extender) to limit and modulate their output below 2a? and by extension, making more amps available would risk charging the bike battery at a rate higher than 1C...

    Parallel batteries (again!)

That's fair enough. Any safer tests to suggest?

    Parallel batteries (again!)

Many thanks for this detailed post. I think my query pivots on is it the extender that is limiting its discharge, or the port, via the BMS or other mechanism, limiting the charge current. It could be either, and the manufacturers would still be technically correct I believe. Considering also...

    Parallel batteries (again!)

Hope I'm not offending jumping in here, but I've been watching this debate with interest from the sidelines and have some observations & queries: Interestingly the Volabike blurb has removed (I assume it was there as you allude to it before, Yak) the section on parallel running for their...

    Swap a bbso1 for a tsdz2 as a direct test

That’s good, we can get whatever version then and run it at a legal wattage if required. Ah not too long to wait.. enjoy.

    Swap a bbso1 for a tsdz2 as a direct test

Nice! The 48v does look appealing. I think that's what I'm going for. Although apparently it is the same motor and controller but with a different cadence. The open source firmware for them looks super interesting too. Run the 36v at 48v.. access higher cadence, change the max wattage, amps...

    Swap a bbso1 for a tsdz2 as a direct test

That is a mad looking bike. I love it. I know your aim was to be legal, but do you think you'd prefer it over a 26v BBS02B 500w?

    BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

Thanks Kirstin, that does sound good but I've just learned my cycle scheme plan for the brighton ebikes version won't work. What do people think about the BBS02B 36v 500w labelled as 250w? It sounds like it may even be the same or very similar thing as the ETM model from Brighton ebikes?

    BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

With the reprogramming from 15 to 18amp less of a certainty, I will likely go for the 25amp version and knock it down to 22 or so.

    BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

Cheers folks, think that pretty much covers it. Looking to keep the hub motor kit for a different bike that'll be ridden legally, so not really considered uprating that one.

    BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

Thanks! That's encouraging the 15amp will go over 20mph. How fast depends on gearing I take it. Anyone got any thoughts on if I need a gear sensor on Alfine 8? Should I be looking at a 46T Chainring and 16T sprocket?

    BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

Thanks, now you mention it I do recall reading that the B version can't be uprated to 18amps easily. I doubt I would run it at the full 25amp, maybe 22 max or so. I also don't envision it drawing this much current very often. I agree though GA does look like the more appropriate cell. I guess...

    BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

I'm looking to upgrade my 350w front hub motor (20mph max speed) to a BBS01B, either the 25amp version from brighton ebikes or a standard 15amp version and re-program it to 18amps. Whats the best approach for this to be able to go beyond 20mph - will a standard 15/18amp one do, and are they...

    BBS01B ETM

when you say em3, you mean the 25a option from em3ev I think, is that the same as the one being reviewed?
