    New Yamaha bike

Thanks. It's not pointless in Australia. There isn't a Panasonic choice (I've tried) and the Gepida shipping costs would be painful even if they respond. Just wondered if anybody had found a way to buy the BraceL from Japan or China. Cheers Spike

Tongxin controller and cytronex battery connector

BMS Battery universal controller swap for Tonxin controller I use the sensor-less 250W controller from BMS Battery. The advantage is that I don't need the pedelec magnet connected and I get cruise control built in. Just hold down the throttle for ~6 seconds and it locks at that speed until the...

    Taking a Tongxin motor apart.

Hi All I finally got around to using the tools to repair the broken motor. The wife went shopping while the kids were asleep which gave me a few hours to play :) In a nutshell it was a pain in the a@$e to change the retaining ring and reinstall the gear assembly. The pictures are very useful...

    Tongxin Information

Hi Jerry They were sent for free with the next kit when I reported the fault. I didn't ask, the parts and tools were offered. I may be a bit slow to get the motor fixed. We had a baby girl delivered on Easter Friday. I'll try to find time soon though. Spike

    Tongxin Information

Hi all I received a replacement motor ring, freewheel and tools from the factory this week. The instructions are just a set of photographs, but sufficient to do the job. When I've done the work I'll start a new repair thread and put the photos into a pdf doc with some explanatory text. Cheers...

    Tongxin Information

Thanks Frank I have found the OutRider staff to be more responsive and helpful, but as you say, the end result is the same. A useless motor that is not worth fixing because it is the same cost as buying a new motor.

Panasonic bike OK. So Cytronex reduced the juice for longer life? I will try that with the next motor. I would be happy with a Panasonic bike, but they are not available in Australia. Shame!

Cytronex Hi Frank The guys at Cytronex seem to have built a successful business around the Tongxin motors. I wonder if they get a different version? Spike

One more try. I'll give the Tongxin one more try simply because I've already paid for another kit. The broken one is in a 26" wheel. The new one will be in a 700c wheel. Given what Flecc and Frank have said it probably won't last a month. If it fails I will switch motors. Do you guys have...

Spoke too soon... Hi I spoke too soon about the reliability. On my commute on Friday I thought I'd lost power to the motor. When I investigated further I could hear the motor spinning inside the hub. I'm guessing it's the cracked retaining ring issue again. I've asked for a replacement and...

A 26" 260 RPM Tongxin Update Hi Jerry I've been using the Tongxin in a 26" wheel for a while now. It's been flawless so far (fingers crossed). I don't have many hills to climb and the controller I have is 250W so I'm feeding it a bit more juice than the recommended 180W. I'm so pleased...

    Tongxin Information

Hi Jerry Yes. I bought a 260RPM kit recently from the OutRider website. It's in a 26" rim at the moment and is running well. See http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/6888-low-power-low-weight-low-assist-3.html I just want to see if it is viable in a 700c rim before settling on...

Low power - Low weight - Low assist

OK. I got the Tongxin kit after a long delay due to using the cheapest shipping option. I've attached a scaled down jpg of the invoice if anyone is interested. There were a few problems with the kit and Diana was willing to send a replacement, but after a bit of tweaking it's working OK now. The...
