    Brompton Cute Q70 question

Yes, I've heard it's very good :) So more specifically - anyone recommend a site that gives an overview of current e-bike tech? Where is the standard for wiring for example??

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

Thought I'd also note that the wheel parts have all finally arrived and I have built the Q70 motor into a Sun CR18 rim as suggested by VFR. 120mm spokes fit perfectly using a cross 1 lacing pattern.

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

Just want ed to pick up on the point of wiring - it's incredibly unsual for even a ompany to stick to standards, very refreshing to know the ebike motors are sticking to a common standard. It has highlighted how little INkow about how themotoros actually work - can anyone recommend a site and...

Battery and charge connectors for case

Thanks both - I'll take a look. That's the problem these days - so much stuff looks okay on the screen but the reality is all too often really poor straight to landfill..!

Battery and charge connectors for case

Good information, thank you! I think that's part of the problem - a lot of the DIY e'bike connectors are not really heavy duty DC conectors at all. I take it the old DIN connectors weren't up to the job? So anyway, a bit of context , the wider problem I'm trying to solve is I have a very nice...

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

Hi, if I can unpack that a bit, what you're saying is that all motors from all manufacturers use the same wiring layout? Same number of hall sensors / wiring layouts and colour coding? If the connectors (when they arrive) are also standard then this may be a moot point but I'm genning up before...

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

So my Q70 arrived this week. The details provided by BMSBattery have been ever so slightly less than useful! Does anyone have a colour coded wiring diagram? It's even possible the wiring is the same as others "Q" series motors I guess. Any thoughts anyone?

Battery and charge connectors for case

I'm going to try to revive this a little as I think connectors and wiring are one of the hardest things to do well in a DIY eBike. I've started to refine what I'm looking for... Up to 50A DC, Waterproof (Sealed), Female panel mount, and over 500 mating cycles min. The choice of connectors...

Battery and charge connectors for case

Hi Kirstin, it's for both, so high current capability needed :) thanks both for the posts. I haven't seen surface mount before. Do you know of other formats that could work? I've had XT plugs deform and crack in the past so I'm on the lookout for something a bit more durable to fit into the...

Battery and charge connectors for case

Hi, I'm looking for advice on waterproof connectors suitable for mounting into a hard battery case. I am planning on building an epoxy composite case to hold the battery and need to mount a connector to the surface of the case for ease of use when moving the battery on/off the bike. I'm looking...

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

Oh now you've almost made me wish I'd held back a little longer! :D However, I'm commited now. It's a fair point about the weight for carrying - and partly with that in mind I was considering a set of two (or more) smaller batteries which could be very effective (I think the bottle with that...

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

@TomCC - you've stayed very quiet :) So, inspired by this thread I've decided to go for a 36v 10AH Hailong battery and the Cute Q70. It won't be as pretty as some but I think will work well enough on the cross bar and shouldn't interfere with folding while also giving me the longer range I'm...

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

Hi @Collis123 , got be honest, haven't done it for years. I used to find wheel building tough but satisfying.. I'd only do it now if i couldn't buy what i need ready made. In this instance I think I'll do it to use the q70 - and to be sure of a good quality front wheel. In this case the kits...

    Brompton Cute Q70 question

@vfr - yup. Gotcha. I thought the bottle battery included the controller. It doesn't so that makes things easier. @Collis123 - you'll at least need to spread the forks out to fit the q85. It doesn't mention wheel diameter so who knows but going on previous comments it doesn't look promising
