905 Throttle failure

Out in pouring rain this morning. No problems with pedal power, nor initially with throttle.

After a few miles pedals still giving full power, but throttle was giving up. I only use it to get from zero to start moving, but it wouldn't give any power.

At present bike is drying out in a warm hall, so I'll try again later.

But in the meantime: is the throttle circuit more affected by the rain than the pedals? Is there any cure, or other way round the problem, or have I got a workshop-type fault developing?

Thanks.

Allen.

For the throttle to stop working:
Either,
1. The supply wire from the controller to the throttle has been broken - check with a multimeter for the presence of a voltage on the controller connector usually 5v.
Or,
2. The control signal from the throttle unit to the controller has been interrupted - either the throttle mechanisium is faulty or the wiring from the throttle to the controller is broken.

The thrid wire on the connector is ground and if this is faulty/broken it could make the motor run at full speed without the throttle being activated.

Thanks shemozzle - that is helpful.

Overnight in the warmth of the house seems to have cured it as it's now working as normal, so I'm wondering whether the very heavy rain was the factor - somehow trickling down the wires and shorting something out. I was thinking about having a go at the 'distribution box' where all the wires from the handlebars disappear, maybe just putting some sealant around the points where the wires go in.

You might have gathered that electrics are not my bag!

Thanks again for the help.

Maybe a light coating of vaseline to help seal the joints, but keep it off the pins. I would also have a look at the connector at the controller end. I think you have to remove the inspection cover to do that though.

Thanks. I shall do that, and given the weather down here lately, report back on results!
