Bafang Cable Length (BBS02 500w 36V)

Anyone know how to shorten this cable by 18 inches, otherwise my almost completed ebike will be ruined by excessive loops of unnecessary cable (bit OCD perhaps)

There's two ways:

1. You cut through it with a pair of snips, meaure 18 inches from the cut and cut it again. Then, you get out you soldering iron and heatshrink sleeving, solder the ends together and insulate with the heatshrink.

2. You buy a magic wand. You can find them on Ebay. Wave it over the cable and chant, "Izzy wizzy, let's get busy and make this wire 18 inches shorter". As long as the wand isn't a fake, it'll work and be much neater.

Yes, I had considered both these options, but was looking for something less obvious like someone selling a short version of this bafang cable.

I've ended up coiling mine and holding it with cable ties under the handlebar stem. It's actually much better than I thought it was going to be.

(note the blanked off plug just above the forks is power for my lights which I haven't put on yet.)

1. I've had a google at shorter leads, but coming up blank, probably missing the odd keyword, any clues where this shorter lead is available from?

2. Lights lead/plug? Don't have one from the BBS02, I could make one 36v direct from the battery, there is an extra hole but not enough room inside the compartment at the bottom of the battery for a drop down regulator for say a more normal 12v.

Cut it at the motor end and solder it together you will hardly see the join. If you are not quite sure ask Sooty and Sweep before you cast the spell.

Cheers for the info, same company that do the dished chainwheel. Even 32 euros I don't mind for the 300mm cable, but 25 euros for postage to the UK is taking the p**s.

Yep, stuff the outrageous postage, invested in http://www.workshopsupplies.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d1434_Heatshrink_Solder_Butt_Connector.html (white) and a heat gun. Add an extra black heat shrink over the top and as you state it should be smaller than the existing plugs and not be seen running under the down tube anyway.

If you cut and solder (which is going to be easier than making off new connectors either end), make sure you use a proper waterproofed crimp/butt connector to make off the ends, and then heat shrink the whole repair with some standard black heat shrink. Heat guns are cheap, if you don't already have one..
