Will be purchasing a BBS02 kit from PSWPower Germany warehouse this week and will be sourcing a battery from EM3EV after reading up posts on this forum it is the place for batteries.
Wanted to ask for recommendations for a 48V from EM3EV as they have a few on offer.
I understand more Ah is more range which is what I want.
Really wanted people with knowledge to give opinions/recommendations.
48V (13S5P-HG2) EM3ev Jumbo Shark 14.8Ah £409
48V (13S4P- GA) Super Shark 13.6AH £274

The super shark will be easier than the jumbo to remove from the frame and is my preferred choice.
Likewise any other recommendations/advice will be appreciated. I believe the 30Q is the bees knees but is out of stock.

Also concerning chainline issues I will be purchasing the Lekkie 42t and fingers crossed it will be good!

My bike is a Specialised Rockhopper Comp 2014.

Many thanks to all on this forum your insight is invaluable:)

48V (13S5P-HG2) EM3ev Jumbo Shark 14.8Ah £409, that's the exact same battery I'm running with a BBS02. The cells are top notch, on par with my previous 30Q pack, although that one was only 12Ah, so slightly less suited for my set up.

I've maxed out my BBS02 using a programming cable, which means that I went for a battery that could handle repeated high current loads. The inbuilt bluetooth links with an app and provides valuable data on charging and cell health, as well as other useful data.

I added some extra mounting points for the frame, as I felt that using only the 2 water bottle mounting points, was a bit risky for the terrain I ride on. Didn't fancy my expensive battery flying off at some stage.

The super shark should be ok also, as long as you don't go mad with programming the controller.

As for the Lekkie Bling Ring 42T, I can highly recommend that too, as it has improved my chainline somewhat. I have absolutely no problem with any of the gears on my 8 speed cassette.

Don't forget to fit at least one hydraulic brake cut-off, as a BBS02 will destroy the drivetrain without them. If you only fit one, then it must go on the lever for the rear brake.

Lots on ES about 30Q and they seem to have a propensity to self discharge.
HG2 top cells as are GA if you want to use high current more then HG2.
I see both capacities are reduced a bit so assume they are using a BMS with lower balance voltage so may be 41.5v ?

How you finding the range on the jumbo? Also do you notice any power loss at less than 50% charge?

Range is about 15 miles until I notice a drop in performance, but bear in mind that I have programmed the controller to draw more amps in most situations. I reckon that on PAS 1, my lowest performing mode, I could get 40+ miles.

I haven't done any definitive testing, but I would guess that there is only noticeable voltage sag at less than 30% charge.

Might just get the 52v 13.6a GA or 52v 17a 35e , concerned with overloading the controller/motor so am I right in thinking a 52v battery charged to 90% will reduce any excess stress on the motor/controller compared to a 100% charged 52v ? Plus charging to 90% will increase the longevity.

I'll let Nealh answer the technical questions, but just make sure you buy a battery voltage that matches the BBS02 from PSW Power. Otherwise, you may get an overvoltage error if using a 52v battery with a BBS02 48v firmware controller. Likewise, if using a 48v battery with a BBS02 52v firmware controller, the display may show the battery level incorrectly.

35e are so so cells not designed for high current so stick with GA.
There is world wide shortage of decent 18650's at the mo, the UK supplier I use is only able to get one type of cell at the mo, direct form the Taiwanese factory so t least they are genuine.
Only buy cells from trusted sources to avoid the fakes.

U-turned on the Bbs kit and gone for swx02 48v 500w rear hub kit.
Battery to be ordered from Em3 is a 52v 13.6ah GA 4p.
Anyone know for my peace of mind the 52v battery will run the hub motor/controller safely.
Controller specs;
Type: YCSV126-001-48T
Undervoltage: 39±1V
Motor Phase Angle: 120°
Brake Type P- Current-Limiting: 18±1A

The display might not read the voltage correctly if using a segmented bar type, the capacitor is 63v so will handle 52v fully charged. You will need some way of monitoring low voltage unless you rely on the battery BMS to cut out at lvc level, lvc will be circa 44.8v.

Good to hear from someone experienced on this, thanks. Lvc 44.8v is that around 10 to 15% left in the tank?
Kit was ordered with a 500c display which shows voltage aswell as segmented bars.
Think Em3 batts alow users to monitor battery info via phone/bluetooth also.
Is it also possible to raise the cut of via the bms?

The smart bms on the Em3ev batteries ballances as it charges, so should allow part charging and still keep the cells in check. You may save some cash getting your Em3ev battery from Eclipsebikes in the UK, although it looks like they only stock the 14S5P Jumbo shark in 52v.

Thanks for the recommendation, not heard of em before. Is there quality on par with Em3ev? Price does seems decent.

No experience of buying from them, but they are advertised as being EM3ev built batteries. I'm sure both companies would be happy to confirm they are genuine if you ask them.

LVC is low voltage cut out so empty 0% in the voltage range, 44.8v = 3.2v cell group voltage which is as low as one wants to go. Whilst at the other end 58.8v is 100% charge level at 4.2v per cell group.

Eclipse are a good reputable UK company, the batteries will be supplied and built by EM3EV. Advantage is any fault or warranty will be with Eclipse so easier to deal with then in HK.
