Bike rack for plugin hybrid car - Bones Saris

Hello all,

I’m new to cycling after an absence of 43 years. My Cube weighs 22Kg and I’d like to transport it on my car occasionally. The problem I have is I have a BMW 330E phev, you can’t fit a tow bar as the lithium ion batteries are under the boot. I only have one option which is a boot mounted carrier with straps. I can fit roof bars but don’t think I can lift 22Kg overhead safely. I’ve seen a Bones Saris cycle rack that looks good quality and will easily take the weight in the two bike version. Does anyone have any experience with these racks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Saris Bones RS that I have had for a few years and not had any problems with it. They are really well made and the straps on mine are flexible steel covered in a plastic coating.

Hi John. No damage so far, I do use additional straps on the bike to keep it from moving around. Also removing the battery reduced the weight a bit.
