Bosch Intuvia USB not charging my phone

I'm connecting my phone up to the display OK and I even get a pop up on the phone asking me if I want to charge it. Although the phone display says it's charging, in reality it isn't. When I'm using OsmAnd (a sat nav app) the battery discharges quite rapidly and at the same rate as if it weren't connected. I have a powerbank I can use, but I'd rather use the Intuvia connection.

Am I missing a trick in getting it to charge my phone via the USB connection?

I believe the output current on the intuvia port is only 500ma which is not sufficient to charge a modern smartphone on its own, especially with the screen on all the time and running a power intensive app like a GPS tracker.

At best it should slow down the rate at which the phone will exhaust its own battery, but I would not consider it to be an alternative to a decent battery pack or mains charger.

Thanks. In which case, it renders the facility useless to all intents and purposes.
