I have a cyclamatic power plus which has been stored at someone else's house for 8 months. The Li-ion battery is flat. I have read horror stories that it is very dangerous to recharge a fully discharged Li-ion battery. Is this true and should I have the battery disposed of safely, bearing in mind that a replacement battery will be very expensive.

I don't know for sure, I've never taken one apart, but I imagine it has a BMS in it which should take care of things.

I'd stick it on charge and see what happens. If you are really concerned, take it out in the garden on an extension lead!

You don't have to worry about the battery catching fire. My hobby is repairing batteries (amongst other things), and I've never seen or heard of anything like that.

If you'er lucky, the BMS has shut down the battery because it's reached the low charge level, and charging it will bring it back to life. If the cells have gone so low that it would be dangerous to charge them, the BMS will cut off the charger to prevent any danger.

Thank you Mike and d8veh for your replies. I feel a lot happier now. I have actually put the bike out in the garden locked to a tree and covered with layers and layers of plastic. I will start charging it tomorrow so I can keep an eye on it (if it is still there when I got home tonight). I'm actually thinking of selling it as it is too big and heavy for me even with the seat at its lowest and it seems a shame for it to be sitting there not being used.
