Cyclotricity Stealth 1000W battery cover

Just got this bike - it is rather good. Apart from the fact that I am finding it rather impossible to remove the battery from the cover/box (attached to the bike). I turn the key, and there is a lever that says "push" on it. Any advice would be gratefully received.

key at the 'push' position, do just that, push the key in (the lock cylinder is spring loaded) for about 5mm then turn the key anti-clockwise to unlock.

Nope, not working. The key turns round. The spring loaded flap thing works. But nothing happens.
