Hi, i have quit a few 18v nicad drill batterys in my garage 3ah. could i use them to run a 36v motor. if i connect 2 sets in series and then in parrallel. what would i get ah wise. Could i still use them in their cases so still charge them with my drill charger. Was thinking of making a rig so i just dropped them into a case like putting them in top the drill body. Any ideas.

series (S) increases voltage and parralel (P) increases amps

so 2 x 18v 3ah batteries in series (2S) would be 36v 3ah

and 2 x 18v 3ah batteries in parralell (1s 2p) would be 18v 6ah

I think you have 4 packs so you can have 2S 2P which gives 36v and 6ah.

just to add - i have looked into this as well and for me the weight/bulk is just far too much using Nicad drill packs (even if you remove cells from packs). Lithium (of any chemisrty) wgives you a better power/weight ratio by some way. a 6ah pack really isnt good for more than a few miles on throttle and maybe 10 if used more sparingly.

The bare minimum is 8ah and most are 10ah standard

having said that if you only need a few miles and happen to have the batteries spares then why not go for it !
