Recently moved and my eBike's display was cracked by some uncaring movers.

I replaced the display (KD58C) with an identical unit, but am getting an Error 30 after a few seconds. I checked all the connections, wiring, etc. and that all seems solid.

Any suggestions?

Comms between controller & display is a usual suspect meaning incompatibility.
Though the display may be the same firmware /programming protocols may not be.
Does the old display still play ball ok ?

For about 5 seconds, the display shows as normal (speed, motor selection, etc.) before it shows the error. Not sure if that means anything (positive or negative).

Is there any way I can update the firmware or otherwise fix the incompatibility? Unfortunately no one where I live works on this kind of bike, so I'm pretty much flying blind.

Do you still have the old display ?

Firmware is set /uploaded by the factory or vendor with the programming software, so no not something one can do. The controller and display would be programmed as a matching pair and each vendor may have different protocols so that one can't use just any display of the same type so to keep repeat business.
One reason why I always use kt with any off the shelf system.

You don't say waht bike ?
If it was a Woosh bike then one would be fine with a Woosh KD58C because they programme their stuff to be compatible with their controllers but not with someone elses.
