looking at upgrading my front forks on my 2003/04 rockhopper. looking at rock shox reba.
without me having to take the originals out, does anyone know if it a tapered or straight steerer? i did read some random page saying it was a tapered head tube so could use tapered or straight steerer. any truth in this? is there a benefit to tapered?

My Reba's 26" have a 1/18" straight steerer, although as with many forks you can get the tapered or straight. Just a case or reading the description carefully to buy the correct fork.

If you have 1 1/8th straight tube then tapered will not fit.
The detail is in the description as there are at least 3 steerer sizes; 11/8", 1.5" and tapered 1 1/8" -- 1.5".

yeah, ive seen both on ebay. was looking online at specs for my rockhopper and cant seem to find any agreement. is it true that a tapered headtube can take both straight and tapered steerer?

My Rockhopper is 1 1/8 straight. It's a one minute job to drop the forks to have a look. Remove the stem cap, loosen the two stem clamp screws and the forks will drop down.
