Help needed removing chainring from a Kahlkoff impulse motor

Hi folks ,

Has anybody any idea how I get this locknut off so that I can remove the chainring ?D I need a special tool here ?

Edit I managed to get the lockring off with a hammer and a small flatblade screwdriver , but how in Gods name is it supposed to go back on ?Its way too small to fit over the engagement area .

You need Circlip Pliers, universal low cost ones on this link

Or even cheaper here, looks the same but I've never used these

That's how circlips should be removed too.
