Hub motor spins - broken gear?

Hi all,

Some time ago the hub motor on my Volt Bike started to make some weird noises, and start pulling, and then suddenly stop.
Then something went completely south, and it started just spinning (and make some click sounds I believe) when I pulled the throttle.
Sounds like som gear has broken inside of it.
Is this a known issue?
And can it be fixed? If so how?
The bike is long out of warranty. It's a Bafang 250W motor on a 20" wheel.

Tbh until the hub is opened one can't say for sure if nylons gears have gone or if the clutch has broken or even if the issue is electrical.

Thanks, ok so I'll try to open up the motor and see what it looks like inside first.

With no film clip to hear an electrical issue is even harder to rule out.
