To run, 2 * 36 volt 10 ah lithium battery's, with a 72 volt controller with 250 watt motor. I want to drop the AMPS down though, so the amps received by motor is the same power rating as fully charged 36 volt battery (40volts continuous) cheers

Why do you want to run 72V through a 250W motor?
Most 72V systems are for 2KW kits.

Looking to increase range without having to swap Batterys and Maintain stable/continues 40v voltage. Im not looking to increase top speed.

To double the range, you connect the two batteries in parallel, that's it.

Got it sorry new to all this just put plus to plus. negative to negative.
This should give me more stable voltage and longer range. They wont exceed 42 volts out put fully charged so speed controller should be ok ?

yes, charge up the two batteries to full before linking them together. There won't be any spark.

My question about connecting via the charger port seems to have gotten lost: I just make a cable with the round charger plug at one end and the decharge plug at the other? Any idea of where can I source the plugs? (other than BMS Battery)

cheers

thanks would there be a way of charging both at same time via 1 charger or would that put to much strain on single charger. ? Cheers

To charge both batteries with same charger overnight, you can daisy chain the spare battery output to the primary battery charging port then plug the charger to the charging socket on the spare battery.

I made a daisy chain cable with a lead canibalised from a dead charger that I was given and anderson connectors.
