Lightning like never before

Just been treated to the most incredible lightning display I have ever seen.

Almost no noise whatsoever. A large anvil-like cloud. And lightning going on and on and on. I think about half an hour but wasn't really taking any notice of clock time. Neighbours up and down the street out and chatting about it. Comments such as it being like War of the Worlds.

I managed some phone video - none of it good - and grabbed the attached.

Earlier today I had read something about some odd lightning - lots of flashes but no thunder. I think this must have been what they meant.

Same here in West Wales, around midnight. Lightning was all around us, all compass directions, with only the occasional distant, quiet rumble.
This morning is very misty and quiet, the swifts and swallows seem to be having a bean feast over the field behind us.
