Forgive me if some of the terminology is not correct, I'm new to bikes.
As part of the process of achieving lower overall gearing on my 906 Alpino I recently fitted a new chainset with 46 teeth. When connecting the chain to the new sprocket I realised it was offset from the line of the rear sprocket by more than a centimeter. Assuming that I needed a different sprocket or spider I started to refit the original chainset but then realised that it was also offset by the same amount.
The problem arises due to the extra long pedal shaft which is necessary to accommodate the sender and magnet ring for the pedal-turning sensor.
In order to minimise the wear on chain and sprockets I have angled the rear wheel slightly in the drop-outs but surely this can't be good design. Is it not possible to get a crank and spider that will offset the line of the sprocket or am I being too fussy?
