How do you know controller is the problem?
Could you kindly provide a picture?
The previous owner smashed it whilst attempting to "fix" it.
I have a modern donor controller if I could find an adaptor that goes from a 9pin connector to the old connector on the front wheel I reckon that would fix it as the front wheel motor still works, but damned if I can find one :(

A modern one is for three phase and hall effect motors (brushless motor) , your motor is a simple two phase so is a brushed motor. The two aren't compatible.
One will need a different controller , one for brushed motors.

A brushed speed controller with PAS is very difficult to come by today.

Thanks for replying :) It's an old trike and doesn't have PAS but at least now I know what I need to google :)

If your motor only has two wires, you have a brushed motor, so you need a controller for brushed motors. You need one that gives around 20 amps. You can get them from Ebay or Amazon, where there are normally loads of them.
