After going to to bike shops in stourbridge this morning, and having a nite-mare trying to replace a f ing spoke i have decided just to buy a new back wheel. The wheel on it at the moment is

Alex HRD 26"", alloy double wall, pinned, 32h

Can you please recommend a new one.I have an 8 speed cassette on at the moment but im going to shorten it to a five speed

Thanks in advance

Mick

Rim or disc brake?

You can use any 26" wheel that has a cassette spline as long as it's for whatever brake type you have. Disc brakes need the 6 mounting holes in the hub and rim brakes need the flat sides to grip on.

You can find loads of used and new wheels on Ebay. If it's important to you, choose one that looks similar to your old one so that it matches the front wheel. Personally, that wouldn't bother me.

Why buy a new wheel when a spoke is relatively easy to replace ?
Just needs a bit of patience.

The spoke measures 10" or 225 mm and it came of the side of the hub the cassette is on.The thing is its looks like the threaded end which is only about 5 mm has broken there.

Remove a good spoke and measure it from thread end to inside of the J.
Use 14g /2mm spokes, I buy mine from ' spokes from ryan' and use sapim strongs.
