Hi all,

I've got a Trikidoo tricycle (adult and two kids on the back) with electric assist - trouble is the throttle has just fallen apart. I've got a new one (Wuxing LT-25X R) but the wire colours are totally different - old one has red, black, blue, grey and orange - new one is pink, white, blue, brown and green - I've got no wiring diagram from my old one and I can't find any help on the new one either - anyone got any good ideas?

Also, as a winter project, I'm thinking of uprating to a new hub and battery as these seem to be approx 8 years old and I'm starting to get issues - looking around I can find a 20 inch 48v 1000w one from Newleaf in China - but wondered if there was anything in the UK that was similar - advice, please!

Thanks in advance,

Ashley

You need to provide a link to the kit you mentioned. I've never heard of Newleaf. Assuming it's a standard 1000w direct drive motor, it will be totally unsuitable for your bike. The front wheel will spin until you've worn through the tyre and then it will pop. Tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll advise you what's suitable.

Bear in mind also that your trike will be illegal for road use with 1000watts. It may also be unstable on corners with the torque of this motor and tip over easily. Dave will give you a specification which will work properly and reliable sources to purchase from. Post a pic of your trike as some will be unfamiliar with this type and may have other ideas for improvement.

That kit is 43mph. You will kill yourself at that speed. The bike will topple when a back wheel hits a bump, and that weedy front brake won't stop you. Can you tell us what size front wheel you have? It's written on the tyre, not the 1 3/8 x 20, but the size in mm that's written next to it.

Thanks for the help so far... Here's a few pictures so you can see what I've got... I know nothing about any of the components as we bought the bike second hand and the previous owner hadn't kept any paperwork... The whole thing looks a bit like a prototype, I certainly can't find any others! I can't see any other markings on the tyres other than in the pictures.P_20150613_101833.jpg P_20150613_101702.jpg P_20150613_101817.jpg P_20150613_102017.jpg P_20150613_101646.jpg P_20150613_101652.jpg P_20150613_101750.jpg

You need to look at the tyre again more closely. There's other numbers on it elsewhere 20 x 175 will be something like 47-406 or 47-451.

Another thing, your forks look very wide. Can you get an approximate measurement of their width between the drop-outs. If you can't do that, poke a rule through the spokes and get the distance of the gap petween the fork legs.

Well, I've searched both sides of the tyres and there are no other numerical markings other than the psi figure... The forks are approx 5.5inches wide at the hub connections...

Measure the wheel diameter then, which should be enough because there's a 2" difference even though they both say 20 x 1 3/4. BMX rims are a different size again.

5.5 " is about 140mm, so you can use a back motor and a few washers. You should take the front wheel out and measure the drop-out width exactly.
