Hi
I bought a Pulse ZR2 a few months ago with a problem whereby the motor power intermittently went off. The bike had seen a fair bit of use but after a good clean and service it looked good. I checked all the cables and connectors and they seem fine. I stripped the motor down and checked all the gears for wear and regreased them.
I have run the motor on no load outside the bike frame and it seems to run freely. However back in the bike and on a bike rack the motor sometimes doesn't start running. However if out on a ride when the motor stops I can sometimes get it to kick in by back pedaling for a second, and there is a slight noise when I do this.
My thoughts are that it may either have a hall sensor problem or the spindle may not be running true under load.
I would like to use a tester on the motor but getting info from EBCO or Tranzx is virtually impossible. They are unwilling to give out the wiring pinouts of the connectors , signal names or wiring colours for any of their components. This leaves the user with no alternative but to swap modules which obviously means purchasing from the OEM supplier. It would be cheaper to install a complete 3rd party replacement system!
Any suggestions on further faulting or comments would be welcome.

thanks

Frank

I'm not sure, but I think it has a standard 9 pin connector on the motor. Can you show us a photo?

If it has the 9 pin one, you need to get the corresponding female one to use the ebike tester. you can buy motor leads on Ebay and cut the connector off to make a test lead.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I had thought about getting a 9 pin lead and doing as you suggested, but I'm uncertain that the different Chinese manufacturers stick to a standard wiring format. For example, I have seen three different colour combinations on identical PAS sensors .
Still I think I will have to take a chance as I think it may be a Hall sensor issue.

The motor wire connector (8 or 9 pin Julet) is the one thing that most hub producers use as a standard, issues of compatibility may arise if a different connector type is used.

Even if it weren't standard, you could swap it around at the controller end unless you get a controller with moulded connector, which I wouldn't recommend. I'm pretty sure that all 9 pins are the same anyway.

I have exactly the same problem on exactly the same bike - did you ever find out what the problem was? I can go between 4-5 miles with intermittent motor and then the battery collapses completely.
