Two motorized wheels sharing the same battery

I was wondering if it possible to hook up two motorized wheels to the same battery, one wheel being 20" 48v 1000w and the other 16" with similar watt/v to a 48v 1000w battery, and also would they run independently AND together at the same time if i wanted them to?

This is a custom ebike for off road riding.

You will be hooking up two controllers to the battery and the hub motors are connected to each controller. There is no problem doing this except you will need a very powerful battery. To make one or the other or both work you just need to turn on/off the controller for the wheel in question.
