I really need to upgrade my ebike/chair and would like some advice.
At the moment it is using a controller and motor (36v 250W) from an old Powabyke shopper with a 9ah Li ion bottle battery. It has performed well but I now want a bit more torque if possible.
I will be wanting new forks, new motor, new controller and as my understanding of the motor/controller combination is a bit limited maybe you could let me know your thoughts.

Woosh's BPM kit is renowned for its torque and hill climbing ability.

Also very torquey are the Ezee kits, though a lot more expensive.

Both would have disc brakes on, which has got to be better for you.
May be worth a chat to both as they may have specific ideas for you. I've always found Cyclezee very helpful and woosh service was great when buying the wifes Big Bear.

The BPM Big Bear Kit is good and powerful it has a loaded wheel speed of 201rpm, though is marked 350w. The kit I have is Sq wave/ unsensored so a bit noisy, it saves having to use a bell to let other users know you are approaching. Maybe they have progresses to sensored hubs ? The hub alone is approx. 4.2 kgs. One upgrade to go for is a front hydraulic disc brake to replace your existing one long with compatible forks.

If you are going to use your existing battery then a
slightly lighter option is the Q100H at a lighter 3.2kgs but good for up to 20a, and a controller/kit from
here. The new Wuxing 108X throttle is excellent and much better to use then the standard ones.

Though depending on your battery age and condition a newer and bigger one will be better which has a 20/25a bms.

BMSBattery or GBK sell the controller that sits on the base of the 09/dolphin battery with a tidy plug and play
wiring kit/lcd/throttle and pas which is of no use for your needs but you can flog that to recoup 10/15 quid. Others like them and they appear to work well however the one I got didn't last long and it smoked.

Alternately upgrade the battery to 48v to get 25/30% more torque out of you hub also speed would increase if you needed it. Most 36 controllers will take the extra voltage, however the hub may be a bit weedy and not like the extra oomph.
Alternative uk battery supplier.

BPM motor kit:
If the OP is going to replace the old battery with an HL battery, I can supply 17A LS1260 sine wave controller (in place of the 20A controller) that acts also as the battery cradle.
The BPM would then lose 15% of grunt but run quiet as a mouse (well nearly).
You can just about see the controller in this picture where the wires come out.

The limiting factor is your battery. That's the thing you need to replace. Is your motor brushed (2 wires) or brushless (3 or more wires)?
