November 18, 200718 yr Hi I just got an old powabyke it's 5 speed I think a Euro mk2 the batteries are shot but the rest of it is in fine form. I would like to give it more ah by using bigger batteries and maybe going 24 or 48 volt and use some small solar modules for trickle charging. Does anyone have any service or tecky info it would be nice to know about the motor and controller what are the wires running to the back wheel and under the crank centre for. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful thanks.
November 18, 200718 yr solar i have 3 info files on the powabyke that go some way towards explaining wiring and led test functions if you PM me i can email them to you. mike
November 18, 200718 yr solar i cant get an email out to you so here are two of the above i dont know there value as i have not used them 1. Choose which function you want, then switch on the power. 'A' is for Pedal Assist mode (PAS) and 'P' is for 3.3 km/h start. 2. (line 145) If you choose PAS, you will only have power when you are pedalling, as soon as you stop pedalling the motor will cut out, 'A' on the switch. The power is controlled by the throttle. 3. If you choose 3.3 km/h start, you have to pedal first. When the POWABYKE reaches 3.3 km/h the motor will start, you can then stop pedalling and let the power take over. Again this is controlled by the throttle. 4. Please switch off and re-switch on when you want to change the function. (line 153) How to use the Self-diagnostic Function 1. Switch off the ignition. 2. Turn the throttle to the end, then turn on the ignition. The LED will light 3 times cyclically. After completing the lighting, release the throttle. 3. Now follow the self-testing procedure below. 4. i) Switch on the power ii) Do the LEDs light first NO Please change the Battery Fuse NO Please change the PCB YES iii) Switch off the power iv) Turn the throttle to the end, then re-turn on the power v) Do the LEDs light in turn NO Please change Hall Throttle YES vi) The LEDs light 3 times cyclically. After lighting is completed release the throttle. YES vii) The LED 'H' lights YES Please change Battery NO viii) The LED 'M' lights YES Please change the PCB NO ix) The LED 'L' lights YES Please change the Motor NO x) The throttle and sensor are tested after 6 seconds. xi) Turn the throttle then the LED 'H' will be from light to dim. NO Please change the Throttle YES xii) Turn the pedal and the light of LED 'M' changes NO Please change the 3.3 km/h Sensor YES xiii) Brake the left cut-off brake and the light of LED 'L' changes. NO Please change the left Brake Cut-Off YES ivx) All OK. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The Powabyke Euro21 with handlebar mounted speed control board is as follows: (Note that the Technical Manual for this 'byke shows the circuit board mounted in the crossbar ahead of the battery pack. The date on the circuit board in the manual photo is April 2001. They must have redesigned the 'byke since then.) Lift out the circuit board so that you can see the underside. The battery and motor are connected via a 7-pin in-line connector. One pin is not used in the plug or on the PCB. Call this pin '7'. The remainder are ... 1. Battery negative. (Brown wire on computer mains lead. *1) 2. Battery negative. (looped on plug and on PCB to 1.) 3. Motor negative. (Yellow wire.) 4. Motor negative. (Green wire.) 3 & 4 connected on PCB. 5. Battery + (from 'ignition' switch.) 6. Battery + (looped on plug and on PCB to 5.) 7. Not connected. The two other motor wires (blue and green/yellow) are connected to the battery + after the 'ignition' switch. The motor wiring appears to be doubled up to decrease cable resistance. *1 My battery pack power connection is via a computer style mains connector. This seems to have been a Powabyke mod. This is robust and reliable but does open the possibility of misconnection of the battery to the mains or the charger into your PC! Hopefully the fuse will blow and prevent major damage in the former. I don't know about the second! -------------------------------------------------------- hope you can get somthing from these mike

November 18, 200718 yr Author Wow that's a lot of info you could try using TurboUpload.com - Free file hosting service, backup your files if you have the speed if not let me know and I will send you our address.

November 19, 200718 yr The files are password protected because we didn't really want people doing their own repairs! We were also going to make it a trade only section but decided against it. The password is available to anyone that wants it though.
November 19, 200718 yr Author Nice to see a company being so open I can understand why you don't want the DIY people messing things up it has happened to us not much fun.
