Needs a bit of advice re: adjusting handlebars on Salisbury

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Will introduce myself on another thread, but for the time being I'm looking for a bit of help in setting my bike up, it's a Powabkye Salisbury. I've sort of decided it's the wrong bike for me, but for now i'm going to stick with it. I really want to prove to myself that i'm going to stick with this before i by a different bike. (again another thread).

So, to the point at hand:

Basically i have a bad back and i am struggling with the handlebar distance and height on my bike. My wrists are also aching from taking all my considerable weight.

I have my saddle set very high to ensure maximum effort into the pedaling action, but i cannot get the handlebars high enough, the stem appears far too short.

Looking on Amazon and eBay, there appears to be so many different sizes and types that I'm just baffled by what to buy. Can you guys help me work out what i need to get.

I'm looking at trying to sit more upright so i guess i need a longer handlebar stem and an adjustable angle handlebar clamp to bring the bars a bit nearer.

I don't know if it will do the job for the OP but well done jazper53 great post, right on the money!!

Barry.

We use these as standard on our Classic and to special order on our Sport...

Hi,

I'm still trying to get this sorted, i contacted the people above, but they don't import them, so they can't help.

I ordered a part from Amazon :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003Z458KU/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00

But it doesn't fit, the stem is to big to fit my bike.

I seems to have a really weedy stem, so most of the aftermarket parts won't fit.

I'm finding it quite uncomfortable riding it whilst leaning forward, and am desperate to find an adjustable alternative.

Save yourself some trouble. These will put you in a comfortable upright riding position. Plus, they improve the security of your bike because no self-respecting (if they have any) yobbo will be seen riding a bike with them,

Hi,

You don't have to do any wiring. You jyst loosen the clamp screws on each fitting; undo the screws in the stem clamp; remove the handlebars with everything on; slide everything off one side; slide them on to the new bars in reverse order; repeat for the other side; reclamp the handlebars; tighten all the clamp screws in the fiitings. Takes about 5 minutes. I fitted those bars to two bikes and I didn't need to change the length of any cables. Although I can't guarantee that for your bike, as far as I can see from photos of it, there's nothing unusual that would need that.

I fitted a set of those 50s bars to mine and it transformed the riding position to something I was comfortable with. The only slight drawback is the rake angle of the mtb frame - it's a bit quick on the steering and the original flat bars suited that better, with more weight on the arms.

However, my next bike will definitely have a more relaxed touring angle and another set of those bars.
