May 8, 200817 yr my chain is stretched and i require a new one.trouble is can anyone recommend a replacement.stamped on the original is KMC 410 RB .never done this before on a bicycle .the chain is 1/2" pitch i think.there dosent seem to be a split link .can i get a replacement with a split link as i have no riveting tools.chain might be of japanese origin.any help appreciated.
May 8, 200817 yr Half inch pitch is the norm, but it's the width that varies. You need a 1/8th inch chain, ythis being the roller width within the links. Any cycle dealer will hgave them in stock, and you can ask for a quick detachable link for it at the same time. The chains are always supplied too long, and you'll need to shorten it to suit, for which you need a chain link extractor. Dealers stock those too. Here's a typical one: Chain link extractor You could take in the old chain and ask the dealer to shorten the new one to the same length to avoid buying the tool. .
