May 31, 20178 yr Ive been looking and thinking a lot on what to get. Have given some serious consideration to buying secondhand, but as I'm no expert I feel this risk is probably too great - one would only need to have a new battery to bring it into the budget end of the crank drives, then it might need some new mechanicals so all in all probably not the best way to go for a first e-bike. So think I've found what I'm looking for, Cube REACTION HYBRID HPA PRO 400 27.5 2017 for about £1500 with discounts. My budget for used was up to £1300 so I'm thinking this is probably the way to go. My use would be mainly forest trails and tracks, very little on the road..... just too scary with all the traffic these days. Would appreciate the wisdom of those in the know if the cube would be a good start for me - I'm in my mid sixties so not going to be going mad on it !!!
May 31, 20178 yr Good bike for what you want to do. Can't beat a good hard tail for do everything bike. Fit panniers, mudguards, more upright stem and you have a tourer. Go for 500WH battery if you can afford it.
May 31, 20178 yr Cubes are good quality and good value in comparison to other Bosch motored ebikes. Have you had a go on it? The crank drive doesn't suit everyone, and no legal ebike is a ball of fire. Some people new to ebikes expect them to go like mopeds, which they don't. As Trevor says, the frame is very versatile so you could tailor the bike to suit your requirements which may change as you rack up the miles.
May 31, 20178 yr Is it this one? http://www.freeborn.co.uk/cube-cross-hybrid-pro-400?gclid=CKDtmv7qmtQCFYg-GwodgvIGCQ Seems very cheap compared to other sites, wonder if there is a catch, it has a lot of nice features which some bikes at that price point don't have.

When I tried to order late last year they had no stock of any of them but would do a deal on a 2017 model.

The price difference due to lower component spec as lower powered active drive, low end gears and fork. Active drive is great but 50% less powerful 50nm compared to 75nm for CX. If going off road CX is must. The altus gears while reliable are slow, clunky and not always positive shift, recently swapped my 1yr ones for 10yr old Deore, was like going from old tractor gearbox to modern cars. With MTB the suspension is critical off-road it makes or breaks bike, while XC32 is not an Air fork it is still likely to be lot better than XCM and last longer. Sent from my SM-G570Y using Tapatalk
