Westhill Ghost 2.0 or Haibike SDURO HardSeven 1.0 2018 ??

Featured Replies

I've been looking at various bikes but now down to a choice of these 2, anyone got any input for me?? I like the look of the Westhill Ghost, but I think I got a better ride on the Sduro. Both around the same price... Just looking for views and information really to help me make my choice, thanks

The westhill is very overpriced for what it is, cheap controller and hub motor at that price is silly. You can get a bigger battery and better specs for less, have a look at woosh bikes. The haibike is a crank drive and will climb hills better but spares are expensive for those sort of systems. Generic hub motor bikes can be maintained a lot cheaper with the Chinese parts they use and can still be very reliable, my wife's £460 eBay step through is still going strong after year and a half of daily abuse

thanks for your input...I;ve been offered a very good deal on a (slightly) second hand Haibike so I think my choice will be between the 2. I get the bit about the bits and will factor that in, but you think like for like that is a better bike than the Westhill for the money??

In terms of quality yes, if you don't mind the higher cost for things like a new battery it's a much better bike. Nothing wrong with the westhill just the asking price is far too much, you can get that spec for a lot less money

On the Westhill, you're paying about £300 for the hidden battery stealth look. for some people it's worth it. personally, I think it should have hydraulic brakes and a cassette motor for that price or it should be priced at around £1300. Hydraulic brakes only cost about £40 to upgrade, so that's no big deal, and you probably can't tell the difference between cassette an freewheel gears.

One advantage that the Westhill does have is its hub-motor, which is going to give you an easier time when riding on the road as long as you're not very heavy or have exceptional hills to climb.

Finally, if you're thinking that you might want a derestricted bike, make sure that you know the possibilities before buying. The Haibike can be done with a dongle that will cost over £100. The Westhill can almost certainly be done by pressing the right button sequence, which costs nothing, but you need to know the secret. Often dealers will give you the secret if you make it a condition of purchase.
