Hi, I bought a Kalkhoff Agattu i7 move with 17.5 Ah battery 1 year ago, impulse motor. I had previously had a 2012 agattu impulse for 6 years, and although I had to have the motor replaced twice, the battery had done really well, initially giving me 50 mile range here in south devon, and still doing 30 miles when I sold it on 6 years later. I live in the same very hilly terrain now as before, doing pretty much the same rides as before, so I expected to get at least 50-60 miles range on swapping to slightly bigger battery( prev battery was 12Ah). I have had to have a new battery already, the other one having misbehaved couple times then stopped working althogether and was replaced in June. I am disappointed as I seem to be only getting around 35 mile range with this one. I have it in 'medium ' setting and only use eco and sport ( extremely occasionally)modes, not touching the top 2 modes. DOes this sound reasonable or should I keep taking it back to the shop and complaining? I weigh 62 kg.

Your Agattu may have had the Impulse 1 unit which was more reliable and had different software, rationing the power more carefully so likely to consume less.

 

Your I7 will be the more powerful Impulse 2 unit, so that could make a substantial difference.

 

However, like VFR400, I'd expect far more than 35 miles at your weight, quite similar to mine.

I’ve had many Kalkhoffs and have generally found the batteries to a strong point (compared to the impulse motor). I only experienced one battery malfunction and one charger malfunction out of about 50+ bikes that passed through my hands. The 17.5ah battery should do much more than this unless your hilly terrain is all uphill with no downhill! I would be disappointed with anything less than 60 miles with your weight and the assist levels you are using. Of course, there may be some fault in the power settings that means it’s giving extra power when it shouldn’t. Anyway, the dealer should be able to tell you the exact capacity of the battery and it’s state of health by using a special diagnostic unit. This gives full details on charge cycles and original / current potential/actual charge capacity. You should ask to see these figures for your replacement battery. If you have a problem getting your dealer to do this, I have a diagnostic unit and would be happy to check it for you if you are ever up in North Devon with your bike.
