January 31, 20206 yr Hello, I’m looking for suggestions for an e-bike for my hilly commute to work. My requirements for the bike are: Suitable for inclement weather - I don’t want something that goes rusty as it’s quite wet in rural wales! Lightweight - I may end up having to carry it up the stairs at work. Good on steep hills Something I can buy using the bike to work scheme (they have a limit of 1k) A step through frame, (I struggle to get my leg over *snigger*) A frame for someone who is short Bonus points if I can fit it in the boot of a car Im not convinced there is something out there that fits my wants but appreciate any suggestions. January 31, 20206 yr it's difficult to deliver all your requirements within the limit of your £1,000 cycle to work voucher. Firstly, the voucher provider takes their commission from the bike shop owner: 15% for Halfords voucher for example, forcing you to use the voucher at their own stores. If I sell you a bike, that has to be one that I would be willing to get £850 for it. At the other end of the scale, Green Commute Initiative charges only 5% commission, their voucher is worth £950 to me. Most scheme providers let you pay directly the store for the difference. A lightweight step through e-bike is like hen's teeth. Take an ordinary hybrid bike: 10kgs if you could use a minimalist road bike, 15kgs-18kgs if you want a comfortable stepthrough hybrid with suspension fork and pannier rack. Then add 6kgs for the motor and battery. I can't see many people carrying 21kgs-23kgs up the stairs.
