January 18, 20224 yr Hi Can anyone enlighten me as to the differences between the early Crosscity 2 pin battery model and the later 2020 5 pin model, were there other differences ..noticed the Mudguards are rounder on the later model but were there any other improvements ? Thanks Edited January 18, 20224 yr by Thorls1
January 19, 20224 yr Welcome to the forum Thorls1 As nobody else has answered, I thought I'd give it my best shot.. Halfords changed a lot of things in 2018/2019. The owner manuals show the manufacturers of both bikes and batteries for many models changed, even though the bikes themselves mostly look the same and feature similar/identical specs. My guess would be that it's simply the economics of supply and manufacturing rather than any intended upgrading that would account for any apparent changes. Why do you ask?

At it's simplest, you only need 2 pins connected: + & - volts. More expensive e-bikes often do have the extra pins in a battery connected for the BMS to "communicate" with the bike's controller/display, providing extra information. There's a lot to be said for the simpler style of just having a battery provide voltage, the main advantages being there's less to go wrong, it's easier to fix, and it's cheaper to replace. If it's gone to sleep, download the manual to discover how to wake it up. It's usually just a long press of the battery button.
