Panasonic NKY226B02 wiring

Featured Replies

I am trying to put this Panasonic NKY226B02 back together but can’t find any information on this battery.

As you can see the B+ and B- (AGND) are already connected to the output pins yet there remains a heavy duty red and black wire coming out of the battery pack.

The BMS (CHMZ20) has two terminals with no connectors attached labelled “Out(+)” and “CHR(G).” I don’t understand why the battery has TWO + and – coming from it and whether or not I should connect the cut wires to the missing terminals on the BMS?

A further question is the non-working vhbw BW888402921 charger has a third “CHK” terminal and I was wondering what this was as I want to use a standard two wire charger.

Thanks in advance.

The output terminal should switch off when there's a logical fault with the cell-pack. You can test that by disconnecting the sense wires not shown in your pictures. If it doesn't switch off, don't use it for output. Switching is done on the negative side. The positive normally runs straight from the cell-pack to the output and charge terminals.

That’s interesting.

The wires coming out of the battery pack have the 26V battery voltage across them and there is also 26V across the two open terminals on the BMS Out(+) and “CHR(G). The sense wires numbered 1 & 2 in my picture are disconnected.

Just looking at the picture of yours and without testing anything, I would have said that yours switches on the positive and the Out (+) is for the output positive wire.

Yes, it is utterly confusing, I mean why have TWO sets of output wires coming from the battery. I also have no idea what the third “CHK” wire is doing so I’m going to strip the battery pack down completely to see if that can tell me anything.

Some Panasonic batteries have temperature sensors that are monitored externally during charging.
