December 10, 2025Dec 10 Hello folks. Over the last eight years I have owned two ebikes, A Cube Reaction and a Trek Powerfly five, both great bikes, particularly the Trek. Each bike has covered about 10,000 miles without issues. I would like to buy a new bike in early spring, but can’t find exactly what I am looking for, I am hoping someone here has some ideas. Here are a few requirements. I need the power of a Bosch performance motor, straight bars, and most importantly not weigh twenty five plus kg. I only ride on the road and tracks, so can do with out suspension. Anyone help? Cheers

I don't really know much about the Bosch performance motor, but if you have specific requirements have you thought about buying a suitable donor bike and adding a Bafang / Tongsheng mid drive kit ? (Or get someone to do it for you) I built one for my sister to do a coast to coast ride. This has a rear rack battery, which is the only place it could fit because of the xs frame If weight was your overriding concern, plenty of second hand quality hard tails 11-12 kg, add a bbs01 and battery and still be well under 20 kg Another option if you are only riding roads and tracks would be a hub motor eg this 10.5kg Boardman Hyb 8.6 £240 second hand, added rear hub motor and battery with built in controller (+£500). It weighs a touch over 16kg with the battery fitted. Edited December 10, 2025Dec 10 by Peter.Bridge

Totally doable, but you’ll likely need to look outside the typical MTB-style Powerfly category.
