January 11Jan 11 Hi My wife and I are looking for ebikes primary for us when we're touring in our motorhome on the continent. Will be primarily road/paths rather than off-road. I'm 5'7" and was looking at around a 50/51cm frame, my wife slightly shorter and looking around a 46cm frame. We had both trialled the cube touring hybrid one 500 2025 model. I thought it was great though at the time the frame in store was too big for my wife to comfortably use. However seeing the comments elsewhere on the hybrid pro and chain jumping and the poorly engineered chain guard I'm a little worried about going ahead The 500 2025 model is available in my size and there's a 625 2024 model available in my wife's size. We're both look for practical bikes with an upright riding position. We don't need folding as we've more than enough storage space. Really interested in people's views on these models or potentially alternative around the £2000k max..budget. Thanks
January 11Jan 11 Try for the 625 battery on both if you can find it. Its a Bosch motor and Shimano Cues drivetrain. All bikes with the same components will have the same propensity for whatever issue chain jump is being used to describe. So not a reason to say no to Cube. Chain guard I can't help with, except to suggest DIY fettling of mountings might be all that's needed. On Shimano 11 speed, I have 20,000 miles of experience in the last four years, a little Cues but mostly M5100, and all 11-51 cassette, and I have found it to be trouble free when correctly installed and adjusted. Mine maintains excellent shifting without adjustment both up and down on a single click, as it should, for thousands of miles. Very rarely the chain will come off at the front chainring, but only when components are somewhat aged, never had that with newish chain, cassette and chainring. If your mileage will be fairly low, and you are able to set it up and adjust rather than needing a bike shop, it should be fine. Things to watch for are bearing looseness in rear hub and freewheel, and rear wheel security - I use a trailer a lot and occasionally the hitch will cause the QR to loosen. At very high mileage - say 4,000 miles - the cassette rivets can loosen. Sometimes my cassette retainer has loosened too. All the above allow the cassette to move relative to the derailleur position, which obviously affects shifting. But all new and properly set up, the most reliable drivetrain I have ever had.
January 11Jan 11 The 500 2025 model is available in my size and there's a 625 2024 model available in my wife's size. The Cube Touring Hybrids are not bad bikes but they are at the low end of the range and with a 500W battery you will be lucky to get much more than 40 miles range even with the most economic riding. I strongly suggest you set your sights a bit higher, look for a 625 battery minimum, 11 or 12 gears (rather than the 9 on the Touring Hybrid and if possible the latest (Generation 5, 2025+)) Bosch CX motor which has the significant improvements over the 2024 version and a much better resale value. It will almost certainly cost you a bit more but could be money well spent if later you want to be more adventurous.

January 21Jan 21 Have you thought about a tandem? I have an electric one to sell. Fits on back of my Motorhome but with our newly acquired dog don’t get to ride it much. You’re welcome try it out. It’s a Dawes tandem like nee
