Interesting Motor Conversion Experiments

Featured Replies

This young lad in the States did a series of interesting motor experiments in which he presses old electric motors and alternators into service for his e-bike projects. He does some clever work, rewinding and adapting old junk box hardware into what we would regard as electric motorbikes. These are not just hacked together. Worth a watch.

There are more like these using different motor types. Check out his channel.

The alternator has very different design objectives to an ebike motor. Rugged, reliable, long lived, cheap Vs lightweight, efficient, cheap.

Wouldn't be my choice of a starting point, but well done young man for showing it can be done.

I thought for such a young fellow, he had made some very interesting and effective motors out of all kinds of inappropriate junk really. There are several weird conversions, including total rewinds of the stator coils on an old pillar drill motor. He pursued the work until they powered him along at small motor cycle speeds. He will be a good engineer by now.
