Cardboard Bike Helmet

Featured Replies

Alternatively, you could bind your head with bubble-wrap and then wear the box which a regular cycle helmet comes packaged in. To enhance the effect, simply take a magic marker pen and draw a chin-strap on your face.
The first motorcycle helmet for consumers, the "Corker", was made out of compressed cork particles, so if cork was good enough for m/cs, cardboard should be plenty good enough for cyclists.
Anirudha Surabhi’s design absorbs four times more impact energy that the polystyrene equivalent, and — unlike regular helmets which break on impact — it survives longer.

That all sounds good but it isn't, poystyrene could be made to have the same qualities (or greater) but it's all about compromise. A material that absorbs more total energy is less likely to prevent injuries in a low speed crash, it's the same problem with Snell rated motorbike helmets compared to British Standards.

I also think the surviving longer claim sound like rubbish.
