August 29, 201114 yr Interesting additions. Despite the risk of adverse reactions, I do have the odd criticisms. First is that I'm surprised they haven't cantilevered the rear suspension on the most expensive model at least. The benefits of this are almost universally understood and even cheap kids bikes often feature it these days. The second is the weights, though it's inevitably going to be higher than average on e-bikes with bevel drive motor systems, it always has been. I think they could still be lighter though. This said, welcome additions as ever for they are the only way to get decent bikes with crank drive and a throttle at present. I've come in for comment for daring to point out that they use the Yamaha motor from a decade ago, note the word, motor, not whole unit, since the unit's transmission is changed. Well, this excerpt from the website supports that contention: "Central Drive Technology which apart from YAMAHA, has gained the support of SANYO, PANASONIC and many other manufacturers". Note the priority given to Yamaha in that statement, inferring rightly that the others followed. Yamaha were indeed the first of major manufacturers with this, in 1999, though a minor manufacturer in Britain got in before in the 1980s. . Edited August 29, 201114 yr by flecc

August 29, 201114 yr You and me both Flecc.....for me its the only flaw.....well, that and it not being purple Lynda Yes, purple is a great colour on bikes, especially if offset with some gold lining. It's a colour we don't see enough.
August 29, 201114 yr I like the look of the eagle, looks like quite a machine. That is my favourite in that range. Would be interesting to see where the extra weight is in them and how much of a diet they could be put on. Perhaps the extra weight is a sign of them being built quite solidly?
August 29, 201114 yr Just been looking at their £1400 Unicorn model but I can't see what the extra dosh buys. Indalo
August 29, 201114 yr Would be interesting to see where the extra weight is in them and how much of a diet they could be put on. Perhaps the extra weight is a sign of them being built quite solidly? Although the bevel drive units are usually more heavy, I'd thought some of the extra weight came from the odd large section frame shapes. The Eagle upsets that idea though, it's just a conventional frame.
August 29, 201114 yr The new range looks good. The Eagle with 28" wheels might be too big perhaps for shortish people like me at about 5' 6". One thing I don't understand is why they are sticking with the 10Ah batteries, I would like to see 15Ah or 16Ah or more! Barry.
August 30, 201114 yr The thing that surprised me the most was the prices. I am sure I didn`t pay anything like £1200 for my Enduro and that included shipping. I will check with the purse strings holder when I get home. I thought one of the big selling points of the Tonaro was that they sold electric bikes at throw away prices...ride them to death throw them away and buy another. With the current prices, they have come more into the mainstream market and the attraction of cheap, disposable bikes has gone. Steve
August 30, 201114 yr Could this hike in prices be in response to the unstinted praise given by existing owners? They have still retained one model at a relatively modest price, are the components of proportionately lower cost? Dave
August 30, 201114 yr Hi The answer to the price rise is that costs in china have gone up wages have almost doubled the raw materials have gone up fuel cost are up the US dollar to China yen has gone down So a price increase off 20 % on all goods from China And will continue to Increase So all Goods from China Have Gone up and remember all price rises have 20% vat added Frank Edited August 30, 201114 yr by banbury frank
August 30, 201114 yr Interesting the clothing sector hasn't seen anywhere near as many increases. The VAT issue has been like that for some time now and although makes a few points decrease on the Margin is hardly a huge number to swallow. Unless they are fobbing you off with trying to get more margin I always take suppliers reasons for price increases as a pinch of salt. Why have the workers wages doubled all of a sudden? I must have missed something ? Raw materials are always on the rise and its something you have to take into account. Infact due to oil prices the world over there are now even slower boats to stock goods on to get the price of freight down. Still no one likes shipping air do they...
August 30, 201114 yr I think the introductory factor came into it as well though, most market entries start at slightly artificial prices to get established. Even the Kalkhoff Agattu started here with a special price, £1175 if my memory serves me correctly, but it didn't take long for them to be around £1450. It's the way of the marketing world.
August 30, 201114 yr I got an e-mail from Phil at Powerpedals today and he has told me the new prices are a worst case guestimate at the moment and the prices do include delivery. He also said that some of the prices will be higher in any case because the bikes have been fitted with better quality components. He will know more when he takes delivery of the bikes and I would expect that he will update his web site accordingly. Whatever happens, he will still provide first rate service. If the price hike is due to my salemanship for Tonaro I wish for 2 things: 1. That I had shut up in the first place. 2. Phil would cut me in for a share. I can promise that neither of those things are going to happen. Steve Edited August 30, 201114 yr by steveindenmark
August 30, 201114 yr Hi Well done Phil at power pedals for good service BUT all out there. Support costs so He has to make a reasonable Profit to Pay for it If you take the Vat off a 1,200 bike that leaves 1,000 He has paid for the bikes 3 months ago when they arrive he has to pay warehousing costs over heads + staff wages He is NOT making a fortune or ripping anybody off Frank
August 30, 201114 yr Oh no I don't think thats what was being said. After all everyones got to make a crust!
August 30, 201114 yr New additions Yes, purple is a great colour on bikes, especially if offset with some gold lining. It's a colour we don't see enough. Yes really sets it off , i used to have a purple Rotrax (if anyone remembers them ? ) way back late 50S, with gold head badge and logos . Edited August 30, 201114 yr by geostorm
August 30, 201114 yr I am not sure where you got that idea Frank. I am 110% certain Phil is not ripping anyone off. I could not have wished for better service, in fact he could not have provided me with better service if he tried. He is a top class bloke who provides top class service wherever you are. And I am in Denmark. Just so we are all clear. Steve
August 30, 201114 yr Frank didn't suggest that, he's outlined clear reasons why the prices have risen...
August 30, 201114 yr Hi steveindenmark I think you got hold off the wrong end off the Stick I said ( He is NOT making a fortune or ripping anybody off ) I was saying He was one off the Good Guys Frank
August 31, 201114 yr You are right Frank, he is. Funnily enough there seems to be a lot of good guys dealing in either electric bikes or bits of electric bikes on here. It makes a refreshing change from some of the guys who I have come across who deal in other forms of transport. Steve

Steve I think because many of them are enthusiasts for the concept of e-bikes, so their primary concern is the best interests of the concept with the profit secondary.
