Finally got an ebike for commuting to work...

I explored getting an e-bike on this forum, testing them out a few years ago (just as the Bosch drive hit the market). But the sort of thing I was looking for was just too expensive for me, and the time wasn't right. So I passed. But the idea of cycling to work has come up again. The market...

Shock warning! Should we ask for Registration?

Impractical to enforce, and unlikely to be enforced. Laws that ain't enforced are a bad idea in my view, better not to have them in the first place.

Do members think it is possible to produce a decent e bike for £1k

I don't agree, I think there is another 'potential' market (and it's formed from all those who don't cycle at the moment) , it just hasn't been developed yet. The UK is very windy compared to the rest of Europe, and hilly in places, these are two major reasons why people don't consider cycling...

Do members think it is possible to produce a decent e bike for £1k

I think thats a completely different market they are appealing to. I'm just saying that *I'm* disinterested in spending £2.5k on a hand built bike using high priced off the shelf components from a few industry incumbents, with tiny production runs, using a traditional sole importer, and...

Do members think it is possible to produce a decent e bike for £1k

Definately possible... economies of scale are need from production, right through to distribution, servicing and parts, to bring the cost of these vehicles down if they are to gain any popularity in my opinion. That is going to lead to standardisation... At the moment these machines seem to be...

Parcel delivery companies, who's the best?

They are all very similar... IMO it's more important to use a courier company with a good 'local' depot (the more local the better), one who you get on with, and will look after you... you get good depots, and bad ones, the same goes for drivers and central hubs. As others have pointed out...

    Promotional posts from businesses/advertisers

I like the suppliers comments 'within' the forums, splitting them off is just silly, they have a lot of information to offer, and as a prospective pedelec purchaser the information they provide is highly relevant to me, as long as it's on topic. I would not support them spamming the forum...

    Haibike

James, Are you going to sell the eQ 'Cross'? If so, how much? Cause I really don't need the mudguards, lights, rack and stand on the eQ 'Trekking'... and I prefer the bike in 'White'.

    Haibike

I'm pleased you have the weights of these bikes on your web site James... as Haibike doesn't. I'm seriously interested in the 'eQ Trekking' model (or perhaps the Cross - with mudguards fitted), a bit heavier than the BH equiv's I'm looking at - and a lot more expensive, but these eQ models are...

    Emotion Sport Max +

Thanks, I'm intending to visit Onbike this Saturday to try out a few BH models, and will see if they will swap the forks on the Sport Max (or Lux) based on your experience... Showed pics of the Kalkoff to a few collegues at work, and they said they wouldn't want to be seen riding one :-( Also...

    Emotion Sport Max +

Ok, you've put me off those forks on the Sport Max+, Not sure which pro-connect you mean though, cheapest I can find on 50cycles is the £2k Kalkhoff Pro Connect Disc Electric Bike, but that's got the wrong picture, that model is actually a step through frame. Kalkhoff : Models 2011 kalkhoff...

    Emotion Sport Max +

I don't like the Kalkhoff 'look', and they are more expensive. The Sport Lux doesn't have any front suspension...

    Emotion Sport Max +

HarryB, I was very interested in your comments, as I've short listed the BH E-Motion Sport Max + for riding the 7 miles back and forth to work on the flat (and for leisure). Its the only range of electric bikes that I could find that look like a normal bike. I live in a 2nd floor flat, so...
