    Anyone used a trailer?

I have an Ipex 'Bob' trailer, and it's been out on a couple of long weekend camping trips on the non-assisted bike. I carried 24kg in mine (including fluids) and it was remarkably easy to tow along - even single track sections of the trail were no problem. My mate went to the extreme and carried...

After 8000km and some torturous 48v abuse, I thought it was time to replace the crank shaft internal bearings on my trusty Tonaro. Here's a video showing how to pull the gearbox apart for the uninitiated. Note that earlier versions of the shaft had circlips and no locking nut...

    Flykly smart wheel on kickstarter

I don't like that the pedal assist is a sensor of some sort on the sprocket - when it starts turning (after x amount of revolutions I presume) the motor engages so there is no way to select the power you want other than through the phone app - not very conducive to adjusting on the fly. How do...

    Tonaro Bighit

I pinched the Fox shock of my other bike and fitted it to the Tonaro. Its about 7mm shorter than the original, but pumped it up to 250psi to stop it from bottoming out (the wheel hits the battery box on heavy bumps if too soft). Nice to be able to lock it out on smooth sections of pathway...

    New Tonaro Bighit Owner

I have a thread on the Australian forum 'Whirlpool' outlining my experiences with the Tonaro since I bought it last year if it helps - read it here - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1949728 Just upgraded to a 48v battery, and it really brings the bike alive combined with the...

    Tonaro Bighit

Wow, what a difference a 48v battery makes. All of a sudden, there are no hills where I live! The motor handles it fine, barely gets warm. My non-standard controller is stone cold. A lot more speed, and much more power for the hills. I think with a pedal assist, it would be scary in mode 3...

    NuVinci CVT (Automatic Gears) Hub

Further to my earlier post, I've settled with a 52T/20T combination on my NuVinci-enabled Tonaro and this seems to be the ducks nuts. Fantastic acceleration, and pretty good top gearing makes it a good all round combo. Very happy with the N360.

Say hello to the Indian Ocean - A scenic stop on a 55km ride today. I put my 52t front ring on, it goes well with a 20t on the back.

It felt cooler on the bike than off (airflow) and merino-wear makes a great sunblock (as well as wicks away sweat). And of course, the bike handled it like the trooper it is - The motor was only mildly warmer than usual. Don't take your hat off, you might burn. We can tell the Pommy tourists...

Pfft, 25 degrees! We sunbathe at night in warmer temps than that! Xmas day last year it hit 42 degrees here in Perth (WA, not Scotland). The only idiots seen outside were madmen (like me) riding their Tonaro's to the coast.

Amen to that brother! My hardtail MTB seems so underpowered and slow now, its gathering cobwebs... Its inevitable that a first time user will experience crunching gears with a derailleur. However as there is no gear change with an internal hub then not something you will have to worry about...

    Tonaro Bighit

Alex, I disagree with pretty much every thing you said. I've NEVER had an accidental throttle surge, find the bike able to climb long hills relatively easily at a satisfactory speed, and certainly don't have to dismount to get around tight corners! But anyhoo, you don't own one so you're not...

    NuVinci CVT (Automatic Gears) Hub

I put a NuVinci N360 on my Tonaro last weekend, replacing the original 8 speed cluster and derailleur. I found this thread last week prior to fitting it, and was a little concerned about the 'treacle' feeling mentioned at the start of this thread when pedalling unassisted - I had not heard of...

Have I posted this here before? Apologies if so. Carrying a spare tube is so last decade, I prefer to carry an e-spare: The trailer and e-scooter were about 35kg, the bike towed it no problem whatsoever - even up a decent gradient.

Oh yeah, throttle is much more fun. My PAS has been disconnected for a while now, don't miss it at all. There's a wiring diagram I knocked up here but its with a different controller - All the wire colours are as original though. One day I will get around to finishing the drawing of the...
