Just as an update for anyone reading this thread - I've fitted and removed the rack half a dozen times now and it has become much easier to lock it on. I am now completely happy with the rack. Thanks for everyone's advice and interest.

Thanks for the info Torchy and Batholith. After a lot of searching and a few test rides we've opted for the Trek Verve+ which is 20.5 kg with battery and about 18 kg without. A bit above what we wanted to pay but the lightest large wheeled ebike we could find that was not very silly money! Mike
