Hi i purchased a second hand trendline electric bike ive used it a couple
of times for work aprox 3 miles each way but the other day when i was
nearley at work the motor started cutting in & out at first i thought the
batterie had run down & charged it up but its still doing it ive had the
batterie tested & its showing a full 24.4 volts on the meter if i lift the
back wheel of the ground & turn the pedals & operate the accelerator
the motor runs fine no jerking or snatching its only doing it when loaded
does anybody have any ideas what it might be & how to fix it.
Thanks Driftwood.

I'm not familiar with this make, but it depends on what motor type is used. They usually have wires coming from the hub spindle, and a poor connection can often cause this problem. In the first instance, check every connection in the wiring both from the motor and the twistgrip.

When it cuts out, does it make a loud noise or does the power just disappear?

Hi flecc
when the fault first occured it lost power as i was riding it to work & as i pedaled the bike the motor would try to start & the chain would snatch & make a sound like the chain had skipped a few teath & the bike would jerk forward & lose power again at the moment as soon as i start to peddal the problem starts it wont let me get any speed up before it starts.

One more question, is it a pedelec Driftwood, in other words does the motor normally run on throttle only, or do you have to pedal first normally for the motor to run?

It's beginning to sound like it may be a controller problem.

In that case it could well be a faulty controller. There doesn't appear to be an agent for these bikes now, although electricbikesales might have been at one time as they have suitable spare throttles in stock for the Trendline.

They may have a suitable controller for 24 volt SLA bikes that they could supply.
