so with my batteries and even lithium I can only go about 12 miles. but with bottle battery I would be able to go 25 miles. so whats said in option 3 so could see if bottle battery would fit in that battery holder. It just seems a lot of money 113 GBP as just spent 75 GBP on these 2 batteries. although I do like the idea of more millage
I think you miss understood what I have written. Please re-read.

A bottle battery is a type of lithium battery.

You need to budget about £200-250 for a 10ah 24v lithium battery.

While that seems a lot, your lead acid setup will only last for 200 charge cycles (probably a lot less) before it needs to be replaced. A lithium battery will go for 800 cycles or more.

Alan is talking sense. Lithium batteries will make a difference to range.
You will be able to use all there power, they will last much longer, the bike will be lighter and go slightly further for the same effort.
Insat is my first choice recommendation for you to get your old battery case fitted with lithium insides.
For me getting a bottle battery and fitting it or its contents inside your old case would be my first choice.
For simplicity putting a bottle battery on the bike is easy. Either rack mount or even bolted to your old battery case. Then feed the wires through.

Well no offence to either of you. but I do appreciate your help, but would like to keep bike as it is, but fit 2 x 12V lithium batteries, which as you say would be lighter and go more miles but they have to be same size as I have now to fit my battery holder, and am I correct then in saying 2 x 12V lithium battieries would let me go about 25 miles then and where can i purchase them

I could not afford £200 to £250

I thought that bottle one you mentioned was about £113. this bike only cost me £230 2nd hand 3 years ago

What you are asking for does not exist, that's why we have made these suggestions.

It'll cost about the same, or a bit more in the UK.
Well thats knocked that idea on the head, as I have just paid £75 for 2 x 12V batteries. I just thought I could have purchased 2 x12V lithium ones same size etc to go into my battery holder what would do same job. but dont think it would go 25 miles. like that bottle battery one. But If I saw one in UK much cheaper I would give it a go maybe. not measured battery holder yet anyway.

I saw this 1 on ebay but not sure if its same type. poastage is free its a bit more than other one but just £140 no shipping costs

Lithium batteries need special chargers and protection circuits.
Google lithium battery fires to see why.
There are RC lipo batteries they are super dangerous but lightweight.
Not recommended unless you know ALL about them.
The silverfish battery is fine and will give you reasonable range. I still recommend talking to Insat about putting lithium cells in your battery case.
You can youse the lead acid you bought but it's how long it lasts and what range you get.

I keep seeing the word Insat who is that.

Where is this silverfish battery you say

I'm not all that good on all this. I didn't really want to change all the design of bike. But would like to have more range than 12 miles. But I suppose I would have to change to the battery you quoted

The battery you linked to on eBay was silver fish design.
Insat is also called bga reworking. Here is a link. http://www.bga-reworking.co.uk/ I believe it's Jimmy you need to speak to. The more Ah he can get into the old case the greater the range you will get.
I hope you are getting the we are trying to help you get the best out of your bike in the cheapest but safe way possible.

Apologies D8ve, our posts crossed.

Mark.
No apologies required.
We are both trying to help. I have been here a bit longer but D8veh and Flecc are still the gurus.
You provided a good link to a battery I would have missed. I thought it was prismatic cells not 18650. Now all he needs is a good charger.
The options are there for billy.

Oh I see so that bottle battery is called silver fish design.

I have been on Insat site but like I said i wont have a clue what to do. and how would I contact this jimmy. I am not good at asking about all this battery stuff

yes I can see you are helping me to get best out of my bike. but i didn't really want to mess with placing a bottle battery. in where my battery goes, as think it will change design of bike.

so this battery is a silver fish design then

Hi biillyboya,
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222005398728
It may well fit into your existing battery case & do what you want, but you will need a suitable charger to go with it.
Mark
Well my battery case takes 2 of these batteries atm

they fit inside battery case like so

so this charger below would fit into one of those battery bays

as according to the measurements on screen its 14|0 MM length x 7|0 MM width and the depth looks slim enough

But then again it has to have a charger too so getting real expensive as well plus having to wire it all up. Im no good at all that

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222005398728

Plus i have only just paid £75 for those 2 batteries I have now. so I am at a loss really as who would buy them from me now.

I do really appreciate everyones help here believe me. but its just getting very complicated now and expensive. Im no good at all with all this. I would like to keep the old battery case as if I chnaged that now and fit a bottle battery type. it would change bike altogether, I would like to find out if I can use lithium batterys in the case holder. but it says £140 plus would again have to buy a charger

I would like to keep same battery case and have lithium batteries inside it and hopefully go further miles. but cheap as possible. it also worries me how I can do all this wiring etc

this battery looks as if it will fit into one compartment of my battery case, but then how do i wire it up and how much will a charger be. as long as it will give me say about 25 miles I will be happy and it lasts longer

if its not too hard to wire this battery up whats quoted, plus a charger which is not too expensive. I may go for it as long as it will let me go further

A point also I would like to ask how can I tell if lithium batteries will be ok for my control box

If I'm being totally honest I have concluded that most of this is a bit beyond your present skill level, and could be dangerous/expensive or both.

I think your best course of action is to continue as you are, take it to a pro or buy a new bike.

I hope that doesn't come across as offensive, it's really not meant as such.

Hi no I have done similar stuff like this before. But just didn't know best way to go. I would like to keep bike the same and fit that lithium battery what was quoted in side my existing battery holder but won't know what charger to buy or how to wire it up as never done everything like that before. I just didn't want to spend over the top. As just paid £75 on these batteries. You all have been so helpful. But think best way would to fit that lithium battery pack but just stuck on how to wire it up and what charger to get

Let's try and make sense of all this.

Whatever lithium battery you get, you'll need a charger for it, which would cost about £25 unless you can get a free one with the battery.

Any 24v lithium cell-pack that will fit in your case will be OK with one proviso: It needs to be able to provide the current that your controller allows. Normally the current is written on the controller, otherwise use 20 amps as the minimum. Many lithium batteries can't supply that much current.

The maximum pack size is 320 mm x 100 mm (? distance between pillars) x ? (height)

A pack with a capacity of 10Ah will give nearly double the range of the lead batteries.

Cell-packs often only have two or 4 wires (2 charge, 2 discharge), so will be very easy to fit without expert knowledge.

Lots of packs on Aliexpress. Choose one that fits.

This one if your controller is only 15A:

Thank you all for all your help. I know I must be annoying a lot of you. But just that I didn't want to spend too much as just paid £75 plus the bike only cost me £230 2nd hand 3 years ago.

That 2nd link is more than the eBay one £168 but 1st link is only £116 I live in the UK but suppose like Alan said previously it would be more

How can I find out what my controller allows as don't think there is any name on it. Probably was made by someone

Where did u find these measurements

The maximum pack size is 320 mm x 100 mm (? distance between pillars) x ? (height)
