Would I be correct in thinking that Lithium NanoPhosphate is the best lithium battery technology currently available (possibly manufactured by A123 Systems) ?

Best for what?
These are the parameters that I'd consider:
  1. Cost
  2. Continuous discharge rate
  3. WH per kg
  4. WH per litre
  5. Safety
  6. No of charge cycles (life)
They score well on 2, 5 and 6, but poorly on 1 and 3.

I'd consider that Panasonic NCR18650PF are superior. They're half the weight and still score well on all the other five parameters.

Best technology currently available - I guess wont be the best for cost but maybe best discharge rate/charge cycles & Continuous discharge rate

Apologies, missed the bottom of your reply - where would you get a battery pack eg. 36V 16Ah made up of those Panasonic cells ?
