I ride a 1982 Suzuki X7 , the first 100 mph 250 cc machine back in the late 1970`s when Learners were permitted to ride 250`s .
Now that takes me back i had one of them back about 1985, what a scary machine. The engine was way too fast for the antique chassis, twin shocks etc from another era. I traded it in for a 350 LC which was also a blast at least that handled. Both cracking bikes which as the poster said set new benchmarks which brought in restrictions.

As a consumer I have no issue with those who wish to use pedalecs upto 250w
But lets not pretend the B27 is a 250w when its really a 350w with a 48v battery repackaged to comply with current legislation and get one over other producers. So lets get the blinkers off and all play to the same rules.
Should a consumer wish to use this bike I dont have an issue so long as the law is complied with. And therein lies the problem,the law as it stands allows loopholes like the B27 and yet the Aurora is illegal. Bikes should be restricted to 15mph but can we please have it available on hills and also with throttle control for town usage as a safety requirement. Modern systems can acheive this so I suggest the 250w regulation is where the problem lies .

I don't know why you've assumed this Alex. The link above to Nycewheels, a US supplier is for there, where the 350 watts is legal.

BionX supplies for pedelec use in the EU countries have always been PL250 models, not PL350 models, and any supplied to Britain will probably continue this way.

BionX also supply the higher powered versions to German companies for use in their high power/speed classes, including a 500 watt version to Riese and Muller, this being legal there since May 2010.

Its actualy a 350 revamped to 250w hence the HT. Which I imagine most large manufacturers will follow.

I really think the manufactures don't care about this 250 Watt limit as well. You can bet your bottom dollar that there are tons of so called legal bikes running about with 350 Watt motors just restricted to 15 mph. I don't know why we are all getting hung up on this 250 Watt motor issue as the manufactures obviously could not care less.

Except for the earlier Suzuki Hustler T250 which was also claimed to be the first 100mph 250cc bike when released.

To get back to electric bikes-
After an unofficial lap record of 94.664mph in the second practice session, it is possible TT Zero could see the first 100mph average lap of the 37.73-mile Mountain circuit for an electric bike during the 2010 Isle of Man TT.
