Mate of mine just got back from a trip to Chongqing and Beijing. He was slackjawed at the number of electric bikes on the roads out there. And to think the authorities wanted to ban them all.

the "US/Europe" version seems to have a different/more refined housing (though it could just be a new model).
it does indeed appear to be a Currie Electrodrive (Izip) motor but the drive has been customised to drive the rear sprocket directly rather than the thing to latch on to the spokes - looks like the pedals and chain have been entire disconnected (though connected to a pedelec sensor? )
whats more impressive is the rear pannier rack has had a cushion added so its presumably possible to carry two people on this machine
